When Sharon Guinn is not on the Rogue River fishing or walking her doxies on the northwest beaches she is in her studio creating something.  She was born in Biloxi Miss. into a large military family and spent most of her adult years in southern California. She worked for 24 years as an RN in the operating room. After retiring she pursued her music and writing and art  full time and loving it!

Two things keep her on track. A sense of humor and never take yourself too seriously.

Sharon on the Rogue River
I have never met a human being that didn't love art or music. (There was one however who hated music and I am sure she was an alien.)

I am so grateful that I not only love art and music but I have been given the opportunity and means to create it.

Often, I find myself drawn to respond to life experiences through music, a poem or by painting.

I love a painting that has contrasting values of light and dark and color values as well. You can see that in the picture I chose to use at the top of this page.  If I can capture my subject in the "light" or color that makes the work pop and draw the viewer into the painting I am satisfied.

I work in graphite, watercolor, acrylic and pastel. I find that acrylic is my most favorite because I love to blend color right on the canvas to get tonal changes.  I also like the durability of acrylics.  I am finding watercolor has many advantages that acrylics don't have and I am really enjoying working in watercolor as well.

I love the challenge each new project brings and how much I learn in the process of bringing it to completion.

An artist Cathy Better said, "Life is raw material. We are artisans. We can sculpt our existence into something beautiful, or debase it into ugliness. It's in our hands. I like this quote.  I want my art to be an expression of life that is beautiful and good.
